The Season of Creation begins September 1, the World Day of Prayer for
the Care of Creation, and ends October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi,
patron saint of ecology. Season of Creation is a time when we renew our
relationship with God and with creation through celebration, prayer and
commitment of action together for our common home. It is also a time to be
reminded of the St. Philomena’s Hospital Bangalore, commitment to Laudato
Si.
This year, the theme for the Season of Creation is “To hope and act with
Creation.” With Symbol of Guidance of the Holy Spirit, joining hands together
to protect the mother Earth.
God’s creation moans ever louder and suffers more every day amidst the
ongoing climate emergency and biodiversity crisis. Our common prayer and
action can help us listen for the voices of those who are silenced. In prayer we
mourn the individuals, communities, species, and ecosystems who are lost, and
those whose livelihoods are threatened by habitat loss and climate change. In
prayer we centre the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.
As Pope Francis wrote in Laudato Si’, “‘Everyone’s talents and
involvement are needed to redress the damage caused by human abuse of God’s
creation.’ All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation,
each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents.”
(LS 14).
In collaboration with the Catholic Church and the global community, St.
Philomena’s Hospital, Bengaluru, hosted a heart-warming celebration of the
‘Season of Creation’, featuring a series of engaging and thought-provoking
performances. Held at the OPD and Blossom Auditorium on October 3 rd . the
event was a beautiful blend of prayer, Walkathon through the neighbourhoods,
the dance, music, Mime, inspiring talks and practical tips for conservations. all
centred on the theme of caring for our common home, Mother Earth. The
climax of celebration was ended with Holy Eucharist, summitting all our
prayers to God and pledging oneself for the actions.
The celebration of Season of Creation 2024 at St. Philomena’s Hospital
was not only a tribute to nature but also a poignant reminder of our collective
responsibility to protect and nurture the creation for future generations.
